Water testing in New York schools

In September 2016, a state law went into effect that requires all public school districts in New York to test water for lead. School districts are not required to conduct water testing in buildings designated as lead-free.

Tech Valley High School is a lead-free school building, as defined by 1417 of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, and is exempt from sampling. A building can be deemed lead-free if: (1) it was built after January 4, 2014; or (2) a New York State licensed Professional Engineer or Architect certifies the building to be lead-free. Both of these apply to TVHS.
