As we head into another winter season, we wanted to take this opportunity to share information about our procedures should TVHS need to close or delay due to weather.
As you might guess, because our students come from such a wide geographic area, the weather outside your house might be very different elsewhere. The decision about whether to close or delay is an inexact science, but it is a decision that is made carefully; please understand that our ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Closings
If the weather causes the overwhelming majority of our constituent school districts to close or if weather around the school makes traveling to school dangerous, it is likely that TVHS will be closed. If that is the case, local media services will be notified. When the school is closed, it will appear as “Tech Valley-Closed” on television. We will also be using the school’s electronic messaging system and social media accounts to provide an extra layer of communication to you. Because of the distance that some students travel, we will make a concerted effort to make decisions and notifications early.
If the weather conditions cause a smaller number of our constituent schools to close, TVHS will most likely remain open.
Students from these schools will be excused from school, though they will be welcome if parents should decide to drive them. We ask that you err on the side of caution when making this decision. Students staying home when classes are in session should log into Gmail for teacher instructions and Echo and complete their classwork.
Delays
As with closings, if the vast majority of our constituent school districts delay opening or the weather around TVHS makes traveling temporarily dangerous, TVHS may delay its opening. If that is the case, the delay will also be communicated by the modes stated above. Students should check Gmail for the delay schedule. If opening is delayed, the school will only be accessible 30 minutes before start time.
If you have any questions about weather-related closures or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact the school at 518-862-4960.
