Sophia Hsia joined the TVHS team for the start of the 2011-12 school year.
Hsia teaches freshmen, sophomores and juniors at TVHS the Mandarin Chinese language and culture. A Taiwan native, Hsia previously taught Chinese for the Warren-Saratoga-Hamilton-Washington-Essex BOCES. She also taught music in the Fort Ann schools for two years and in a private school.
Besides teaching Mandarin Chinese language classes at TVHS, Hsia works with exchange teachers, college interns, and representatives from Tianjin High School No. 41 to teach the senior year Chinese language class and arrange visits for TVHS students to China.
A certified music teacher, she obtained her foreign language teacher certification through the MAT program at Union Graduate College.
A 13-year resident of the US, she is a graduate of SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music with a bachelors and masters in music education and music performance.
The Latham resident is a fluent piano player who performs with local religious groups and as an accompanist for singers around the region.
