Students donate 700 articles while competing to be charitable
TVHS students couldn't pass up this sweet idea: Compete to see who can be more charitable with the winner enjoying an ice cream party.
Students in Mary Van Hoomissen's advisory will enjoy the rewards of their philanthropy on Wednesday, chowing down on ice cream sundaes with all of the toppings courtesy of The Stewart's Shops.
The group of about 10 students collected 190 items - food, clothing and more - as part of a school-wide effort that netted 700 donations, teacher Leah Penniman said. The items are being donated to the Albany City Mission.
The students performed their charitable acts in only one week's time, having started the contest on March 8.
