Senior Profile: Kyle Sharpe

Class of 2017

Home district:
Cairo-Durham Central School District

Post-graduation plans:
Kyle will enroll at Hudson Valley Community College to major in Computer Information Systems.

What are the most important things that you will take from TVHS into your next steps as an adult?
Tech Valley taught me how to interact with business people and be more outgoing. I used to be timid and afraid of embarrassing myself. I learned how to get what I need and interact more with my peers. Tech Valley taught me to speak publicly. Before I came here, I could never give a presentation and now I can. I gained essential business skills, like working in a team. I can interact with others in a coherent way that helps productivity to accomplish tasks.

What were the highlights of your experience at TVHS?
Robotics, for sure. Robotics is what inspires me to follow my true passion. Before I took the robotics class and joined the FIRST robotics team, I was so confused with what I wanted to do with myself. Once I joined the team, I knew I wanted to be a programmer, developer or computer technician of some kind.

Any advice for underclassmen?
If you consider leaving Tech Valley, don’t do it. It’s so worth it. I’ve been there, thinking, “Should I just go back to my home district?” But I stuck it through it. I’m about to graduate with a Tech Valley certificate and it looks really good.

What are your favorite memories of Tech Valley High?
The FIRST robotics competition. FIRST tied the knot with my passion. FIRST made me say, “This is awesome and I should stay with it and never leave it.”

Why Did you choose to come to tech valley high?
Taking notes every day is not fun. I used to read textbooks and forget everything I read by the next class. Project-based learning is a better style of learning for me.

If you could thank your home district for giving you the opportunity to attend TVHS, what would you say?

Thank you for putting up resources that allowed me to have this experience, to allow me to pursue technology. Thank you for allowing me to come here and find my true passion.
